Tema: Mr Charles Amos, the Assemblyman for the Padmore Electoral Area, Tema Community One, has announced plans to mobilise residents for a peaceful demonstration over the persistent water shortage affecting the area.
According to Ghana News Agency, for several weeks, residents in the electoral area have endured irregular and unreliable water supply, leaving many households without clean water for cooking, bathing, or sanitation.
Mr Amos revealed in an interview that the situation had worsened in recent days, causing widespread concern and frustration among community members. Although he arranged for water tanks to supply residents, he noted that the demand far exceeded the storage capacity of these tanks.
The water crisis is impacting schools, clinics, and households, with the elderly, women, and children being the hardest hit. Many residents have had to rely on costly water tankers and sachet water, which are not viable long-term solutions.
Mr Amos indicated that he had received numerous complaints from community members and was working with them to ensure a peaceful and orderly demonstration. He described the water shortage as a public health concern that has reached a critical level, stressing the urgency for action, ‘We can no longer keep quiet while our children go to school without bathing, while our elders suffer, and our families spend valuable income buying water.’
