Ashanti: The Design and Technology Institute (DTI) has graduated a total of 1,500 artisans and master craft persons in the Ashanti region, who have successfully completed training in Precision Quality at Work, a drive to improve skills and enhance productivity.
According to Ghana News Agency, the beneficiaries span across industries such as fashion, welding, automobile, and hospitality. They have been trained to apply precision and quality in every task, regardless of its size. The graduates are expected to mentor apprentices and inspire them to adopt high standards, build customer trust through reliability, accountability, and integrity.
The training encouraged the beneficiaries to embrace innovation and technology to enhance productivity and competitiveness in the business space. Ms. Constance Swaniker, Founder and President of DTI, highlighted that the initiative was part of the DTI/Mastercard Foundation Project Phase Two, aimed at equipping master craft persons, small and medium enterprises, and persons with disabilities with advanced skills for the informal sector.
She emphasized the vastness of the informal sector in Ghana, which employs millions and faces challenges like inconsistent standards and low productivity. The Precision Quality at Work initiative addresses these issues, enabling artisans to deliver world-class products and services with professionalism and integrity.
Ms. Swaniker assured the graduates that integrating their enterprises into a larger economy through business registration, access to finance, and compliance with standards would enhance the competitiveness, inclusivity, and sustainability of Ghana's economy. She urged the graduates to maintain quality, continue learning, and contribute meaningfully to the country's socio-economic transformation.
Mr. Mohit Sharma, Project Coordinator of DTI, noted the significant participation of women in the training. Initially expecting 70 percent female participation, the actual turnout was 90 percent, highlighting women's interest in quality, formalization, and business enhancement. He remarked that precision quality, standardization, and customer focus are vital benchmarks for success in the competitive global market.
Madam Grace Addo, a food processor and training beneficiary, shared that the training taught her the importance of customer feedback, workplace organization, and having first aid kits for safety.
