Ashaiman Parliamentary Candidates Engage in NCCE Dialogue Ahead of December Elections.

Ashaiman: Four parliamentary candidates vying for a seat in the upcoming December 7 general elections for the Ashaiman Constituency participated in a National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) Parliamentary Candidates' Dialogue. This event provided an opportunity for the candidates to present their visions and engage directly with the electorate.According to Ghana News Agency, the candidates who took part in the dialogue included Mr. Justice King Amevor Essiel from the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Ernest Henry Norgbey, the incumbent candidate from the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Emmanuel Felix Mantey of the Progressive People's Party (PPP), and Mr. Emmanuel Kofi-Yesu Heymann representing the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG). Each candidate shared their personal backgrounds and outlined their plans for the constituency, addressing concerns identified in NCCE research and issues raised by community groups.Mr. Essiel, representing the NPP, urged constituents to support his campaign, emphasizing the need for change with the message, "Ashaiman deserves better." He pledged to enhance educational opportunities by providing scholarships and to improve the area's infrastructure with initiatives such as road network upgrades and beautification projects.Mr. Norgbey of the NDC highlighted his achievements in enhancing the local education sector, including securing boarding status for Ashaiman Senior High School. He promised to continue improving educational facilities and argued that while it was his role to highlight local issues, responsibility for infrastructure like roads lay with the municipal assembly and central government.PPP candidate Mr. Mantey proposed a "social contract" with constituents, promising to advocate for them in Parliament. He criticized the current level of development and committed to ending the shift education system and upgrading healthcare facilities. He also aimed to create jobs by collaborating with organizations to establish ventures like a mobile phone assembly plant in th e area.Mr. Heymann of the LPG focused on educational and economic empowerment. He promised to develop an educational database and offer free extra classes in public schools. Additionally, he aimed to support women's businesses with interest-free loans and ensure health personnel and their families have health insurance for peace of mind.Mr. Mawuli Agbenu, the Greater Accra Regional Director of the NCCE, stressed the importance of the dialogue, linking it to the 2024 theme, "Together We Can Build Ghana, So Get Involved." He also expressed concern over the trend of constituents demanding money from candidates, urging the community to preserve the sanctity of the voting process.
