Ashaiman: The Ashaiman Municipal Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), in collaboration with the Municipal Health Directorate, has engaged parents within Ashaiman Lebanon on vaccinations as part of the 2025 child health promotion week. This year's event is being observed under the theme: 'Every Child Deserves a Healthy Future, Invest in Your Child by Weighing Regularly'.
According to Ghana News Agency, Madam Eliet Atsu-Masamaka, the Ashaiman Municipal Health Promotion Officer, emphasized the importance of regular visits to weighing centers, where parents are educated on proper breastfeeding techniques and child health care. She highlighted that consistent attendance at these centers allows for timely vaccinations, which can prevent diseases and reduce child mortality rates.
Madam Atsu-Masamaka explained that the Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) vaccine is administered at birth to prevent tuberculosis, especially considering the Ghanaian cultural practice of family and friends visiting during childbirth. She urged parents to adhere to vaccination schedules to ensure their children's protection against preventable diseases.
To accommodate parents' busy schedules, the Ashaiman Health Directorate has launched an initiative called 'Early Birds', where nurses arrive early at health facilities to assist parents who miss scheduled weighing sessions. Additionally, some nurses are assigned to schools to vaccinate children, with parental permission.
Madam Salvata Mawulom Koku, the Ashaiman Municipal Director for the NCCE, reiterated the collaboration with the Ghana Health Service to promote child health awareness in the municipality. This initiative is part of the annual African Vaccination Month and Child Health Promotion campaign, aiming to ensure that children receive necessary immunizations against deadly diseases.
The directors urged Ashaiman residents to prioritize their children's health by following vaccination education, as these children represent the future of the country.
