Asanko Gold and Amansie South District Assembly Collaborate to Improve Community Roads

Amansie south: Asanko Gold Ghana and the Amansie South District Assembly have announced a public-private partnership to enhance critical community roads within the mining catchment areas. This collaboration aligns with the government's District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP), aiming to provide lasting road improvements for thousands of district residents.

According to Ghana News Agency, Asanko Gold will use its resources to support the Assembly's efforts under DRIP by improving road access through regular maintenance and reshaping. The company will supply diesel fuel for the Assembly's road maintenance machinery and offer logistical support, including material transportation and community mobilization.

Dr. Daniel Twumasi, Environment and Sustainability Manager at Asanko Gold Ghana, emphasized the company's commitment to development by investing in road improvements. He expressed concern over the deteriorating road conditions and highlighted the privilege of partnering with the government to enhance roads in its catchment areas. Dr. Twumasi reaffirmed Asanko's dedication to being a responsible corporate partner in community resilience building.

The Amansie South District, characterized by rural communities, faces socio-economic development challenges due to poor road infrastructure. The feeder and community roads are mostly untarred and become impassable during the rainy season, hindering access to services like healthcare, education, and markets. Improving infrastructure is expected to promote sustainable corporate social responsibility initiatives with tangible community impact.

Mr. Benjamin Marfo, the District Chief Executive, underscored the importance of private sector support in enhancing public infrastructure. Nana Danso Poku, Chief of Nkran, commended Asanko Gold and the local assembly for their initiative, acknowledging the company's ongoing commitment to road improvements and the positive impact of the partnership.

A Joint Road Reshaping Committee has been established to oversee the planning, coordination, and monitoring of the partnership, which will initially run for three months from its execution date.
