Anloga Market Fire Prompts Relief Efforts and Support for Victims

Anloga: Authorities in the Anloga District of the Volta Region have extended their sympathies to victims of a fire outbreak that destroyed a storehouse at the Anloga Market on Tuesday afternoon. They have also assured affected individuals of relief efforts.

According to Ghana News Agency, a delegation led by Mr. Joseph Kpattah, Presiding Member of the Anloga District Assembly, visited the scene on Wednesday to interact with victims and assess the situation. Mr. Kpattah assured the victims, stating, "The market is state property managed by the District Assembly. As a leader of the Assembly, I will spearhead efforts to ensure that necessary compensation is provided. We deeply sympathise with you for your loss."

Mr. Philip Bokogah, the Anloga Director of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), also addressed the incident during an interview and indicated that NADMO was in the process of collecting detailed data on the extent of the damage. He stated, "The NADMO team visited the scene yesterday and again this morning to assess the level of destruction. Appropriate data is being compiled, which will be submitted to our regional headquarters for potential support."

Additionally, Mr. John 'Vision' Agbetiafa, Secretary of the Anloga Market Authorities, consoled the victims and advised traders to exercise caution in how they store their goods to minimize future risks. Mr. Evans Adisenu, Anloga District Finance Officer, expressed his intention to offer support to help victims and reduce such incidents in the future.

Despite the incident, trading activities in the market have resumed, with vendors continuing their daily operations, especially with Wednesday being Anloga Market Day. However, interacting with the victims revealed that many could not trade since they lost their items to the fire.

Meanwhile, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) branch in the Anloga District has initiated educational programmes within the market to raise awareness and prevent similar incidents in the future. The fire, which gutted a wooden storehouse in the northern part of the market on Tuesday afternoon, destroyed items worth thousands of Ghana cedis.

According to records available to Ghana News Agency, more than six victims lost their items to the fire, including corn mills, cooking utensils, mats, and sacks of cassava dough, among others.
