Amansie West: The Amansie West District Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has spearheaded a peace walk to promote tranquility in anticipation of the 2024 general elections. The event, leading up to a parliamentary candidate dialogue co-organized by the NCCE and the Church of Pentecost, drew participants from various sectors, including educational institutions, security agencies, and the general public.According to Ghana News Agency, the peace walk was led by District Chief Executive (DCE) Mr. Oscar Asare Andoh. Participants traversed the main streets of Manso Nkwanta, disseminating messages of peace, and concluded their walk at the Lorry Station, the venue for the dialogue. Mr. Aziz Laryea, the District Director of NCCE, highlighted that the dialogue aimed to unite parliamentary candidates and the electorate to deliberate on voter concerns identified through the Commission's research.The dialogue provided a platform for candidates to articulate their visions, seeking to ear n the electorate's mandate for parliamentary representation. Mr. Laryea emphasized that the initiative was designed to foster healthy discussions between candidates and voters, promoting participatory democracy and peace within the constituency.The DCE praised the NCCE and the Church of Pentecost for this significant initiative, emphasizing its importance in sustaining peace in the constituency. He advocated for continuous dialogue among citizens beyond election periods, as it is crucial for maintaining lasting peace regardless of electoral outcomes. "This is what we can do as citizens to preserve and protect the peace of our nation because we have only one Ghana," he remarked.Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Mr. Oppong Agyekum, the District Police Commander, assured attendees of the Police's readiness to ensure safety and peace. He urged citizens to refrain from violence, affirming that law enforcement would uphold law and order throughout the electoral process.Rev. Evangelist Yankey, the Resident Minister of Manso Nkwanta Church of Pentecost, expressed deep appreciation to all participants for their involvement in this vital event. Mr. Sammy Adjei, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate, who was the sole contestant present, committed to maintaining peace and encouraged his rivals to do likewise.
