Ahafo: Mr George Mawuli, the Ahafo Regional Manager of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), has called for stakeholder support to stem the practice of co-payments in the region. He expressed concern that the illegal collection of medical bills from registered members of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) by some service providers was negatively impacting new registrations and renewals for the scheme.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Mawuli noted that many scheme members are losing interest due to these co-payments. He made these remarks during a stakeholder engagement organized by the NHIA at Hwidiem in the Asutifi South District. The meeting was attended by NHIA staff from the six administrative districts and municipalities, alongside other regional stakeholders.
Mr Mawuli alleged that some service providers continue to charge and collect illegal bills from scheme clients, describing the practice as challenging. He rallied support from stakeholders to address the issue and emphasized that the NHIA in the region is working to tackle the problem. He urged stakeholders to support efforts to ensure members of the scheme receive the full benefits.
Dr Mrs Akosua Agyeiwaa Owusu Sarpong, the Ahafo Regional Director of Health, underscored the importance of effective collaboration to tackle emerging challenges in the health sector and improve health outcomes in the region.
