Adomfe: The Adomfe Epicenter in the Asante-Akim South Municipality has officially been weaned off the support of The Hunger Project-Ghana, achieving self-reliance after a 17-year partnership. The epicenter, which comprises five communities, scored 90.2 percent on an evaluation, surpassing the 80 percent threshold required for self-reliance.According to Ghana News Agency, The Hunger Project has been active in Ghana since 1995, using an epicenter strategy that focuses on empowering communities in areas such as health, education, and agriculture. The Adomfe Epicenter's achievements include the construction of a clinic, food bank, conference room, and a two-unit kindergarten block at Kurofa. The epicenter also established cocoa, oil palm, coconut nurseries, and teak plantations in some communities.To ensure sustainability, The Hunger Project launched a social enterprise project in 2022, providing the community with items like foldable chairs and canopies for rental income. Mr. Samuel Afrane, the Country Direc tor of The Hunger Project, commended the community for their commitment to self-development and highlighted the significant progress made, such as upgrading the CHPS compound to a health center and increasing school enrollment from 50 to over 90 percent.Mr. Reuben Antwi, the District Director of Health Services, praised The Hunger Project-Ghana for their contributions to healthcare in the area and expressed confidence in the epicenter's ability to independently provide essential services. Despite the project's formal exit, Mr. Afrane assured continued monitoring and potential collaboration on future beneficial projects.
