Ada-East to commence government’s DRIP project

The Ada-East District Assembly has received equipment under the government's District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) aimed at improving road networks to boost economic growth and environmental sustainability.The DRIP project was initiated by the government to provide road maintenance equipment such as tipper trucks, concrete mixers, wheel loader, and motor graders to metropolitan, municipal, and district assemblies to undertake routine repairs, rehabilitation, and maintenance of roadsnetworks in their localities as part of an effort to decentralise development and improvement and bridge the gap of Ghana's rural development.Ms Sarah Dugbakie Pobee, Ada East District Chief Executive (DCE), receiving the equipment at Tortimekope, commended the government for the DRIP project and said it would enhance accessibility, improve daily commuting, foster community connectivity, create employment opportunities, and reduce accidents in the district.Ms Pobee said all the processes for the project to begin had t aken place, assuring that, although feeder roads would be targeted for now, the major roads would also be worked on to ensure transportation efficiency in the communities. She explained that the machines would work on a weekly basis to ensure that all the bad roads in the 27 electoral areas in the district received a facelift to improve the socio-economic activities for Ada and told the residents to report to the assembly member of their area, or Mr Joseph Arthur, the DRIP Coordinator of Ada-East.She called on the people to put their political affiliations aside and unite to ensure the smooth progress of the programme for the benefit of all the people in the district, also charging the traditional council and all the people in Ada to own the project and support it.The DCE urged the people to adhere to changes in route due to the project, urging them to identify poor roads that could easily and quickly connect to other communities to the assembly members for it to be added to the road map.Nene Ackwerh Os usey, Chief of Tortimekope, commended the DCE and the government for the project, which would go a long way to improve the road network and all other productive activities in the district to boost the local economy.He said the poor roads in the district had compelled drivers to increase the transport fares to be able to repair their vehicles when they get spoilt.Source: Ghana News Agency
