Ada East HIV Coordinator Urges Residents to Pursue Early Treatment Seriously

Ada: Dr. Coleman Anani-Junior Adator, the Ada East District Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) Coordinator, has urged residents to take early treatment seriously instead of waiting until the sickness worsens. Dr. Adator emphasized the importance of prevention over cure, despite a noted decline in recorded cases over the past four years.

According to Ghana News Agency, Dr. Adator highlighted in an interview the significant decrease in HIV cases within the district, noting that 279 cases were recorded in 2021, 218 in 2022, 198 in 2023, and 191 in 2024. However, he mentioned that the data for 2024 had not been fully completed.

Dr. Adator pointed out that the Ada enclave boasts the most decentralized treatment facilities in the country. Every health facility in the area is equipped with test kits, allowing individuals to quickly determine their HIV status. He assured that even those in island communities could access testing and treatment without the need to cross the river.

He further explained the risk of HIV transmission through unprotected sex and encouraged regular testing to ensure individuals know their status, thereby protecting themselves and others from contracting and spreading the disease.

Meanwhile, it is estimated that about 5,000 people are living with HIV in both the Ada East and West Districts.
