Accra Metro NCCE and Ghana Health Service Promote Child Health Through Vaccination Programmes

Accra: The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Accra Metropolitan Directorate, in partnership with the Ghana Health Service (GHS), has participated in this year's African Vaccination Week (AVW) and Child Health Promotion Week (CHPW) by organizing various programmes.

According to Ghana News Agency, the joint campaign was held under the theme 'Every Child Deserves a Healthy Future: Attend Weighing Regularly'. Mr. Stanley Quaynor, the Accra Metro Director of the NCCE, highlighted their public education efforts focusing on the importance of routine child immunisation for children aged zero to two years. The campaign also advocated for regular weighing, exclusive breastfeeding, and family planning practices.

Mr. Quaynor explained that the NCCE complemented public health initiatives through grassroots education by visiting churches, mosques, market centers, youth groups, and women's associations. The aim was to encourage mothers to prioritize child health and nutrition. Some of the locations visited included the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Love Congregation at North Kaneshie, and other faith-based organizations.

Additionally, the directorate conducted media sensitization through radio and television discussions across the three sub-metros of the Accra Metropolis, namely Okaikoi South, Ashiedu Keteke, and Ablekuma South. While the NCCE focused on education, GHS teams carried out vaccination exercises targeting infants and toddlers to reinforce immunisation coverage within the metropolis.

The joint effort reflects the government's commitment to advancing child survival and public health awareness, aligning with Ghana's broader objectives under the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being. Mr. Quaynor reaffirmed the NCCE's commitment to deepening civic awareness around public health and called on stakeholders, including traditional leaders, parents, and community influencers, to ensure that every child receives essential healthcare from birth.
