Accra Fertility Centre Launches IVF Awareness Campaign

Accra: Accra Fertility Center (AFC), a subsidiary of Medifem Multi-Specialist Hospital, has launched a campaign to raise awareness on infertility and demystify In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF). The month-long initiative coincides with World IVF Day, observed annually on July 25 to commemorate the birth of Louise Brown, the first baby born through IVF in 1978.

According to Ghana News Agency, Dr. Joseph Homiah, Chief Fertility Specialist at AFC, highlighted during the launch in Accra that fertility treatments, particularly IVF, have become more accessible and affordable in recent years. However, he noted that financial constraints, limited information, and lack of emotional support continue to be significant barriers. Dr. Homiah emphasized that since the birth of the first IVF baby in 1978, over 10 million children have been born through IVF, demonstrating the impact of combining science and compassion.

Mrs. Sena Adjasi, Business Development Manager at AFC, encouraged individuals and couples facing fertility challenges to participate in the campaign. She stated that the initiative aims to highlight the science behind IVF, foster dialogue on infertility and stigma, and support emotional well-being. Mrs. Adjasi extended an invitation to all individuals and couples with questions or concerns about their fertility to visit AFC, emphasizing that they are not alone in their journey and that support and hope are available.
