3rd Batch of Degree Students at Foso College of Education Graduate

Foso: Four hundred and thirteen teacher trainees have been ushered into the teaching profession at a ceremony at Foso College of Education (FOSCO) during its 15th graduation for the third batch of the four-year Bachelor of Education Programme.

According to Ghana News Agency, sixty-five of the graduates obtained first class honours, 226 received second class upper, 70 achieved second class lower division, and 10 managed a third class. Dr Anthony Baabereyir, the Principal, highlighted that the College, with a population of 1,550 and 130 staff members, faces challenges such as inadequate funding and outdated physical structures including classrooms, laboratories, libraries, and residential spaces which require urgent upgrades.

Dr Baabereyir appealed to stakeholders, government agencies, community leaders, and the private sector to support the College through financial assistance, infrastructure development, equipment, and scholarships. At the ceremony, Mr Francis Awanbe was recognized as the overall best graduating student, and he was also the best male student, best student in Junior High School education, and best male student in Mathematics and ICT. Ms Akosua Asabea Amoako was awarded as the best female graduating student and the best female in Mathematics and Science.

The Foso College of Education was originally established as Fosu Training College in 1965 by the government of Dr Kwame Nkrumah, with the aim to train teachers for basic schools in Ghana. In 2012, the Colleges of Education Act, 2012 (Act 847) was enacted by the Parliament of Ghana to upgrade existing public Teacher Training Colleges into Colleges of Education authorized to offer programmes leading to the award of Diploma in Basic Education. In September 2018, Foso College of Education, along with other Colleges of Education, introduced the four-year Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) programme.
