Accra: The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has launched the fifth edition of the KGL Inter-Regional U17 Colts Championship. The championship aims to discover and nurture young talents for the development of football in the country.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, the President of GFA, addressed the launch event, highlighting the championship's role in fulfilling the dreams of young players. He emphasized that the event serves as a platform for showcasing not only talent but also discipline and potential. The FA's mission is to nurture young talents, equip coaches, and strengthen the foundation of Ghana's football ecosystem.
Mr. Simeon-Okraku described the championship as a celebration of youthful talents, regional pride, and the transformative power of football. He affirmed the continued investment in systems that support talent growth and development according to Ghana's football principles. With backing from the KGL Foundation and other stakeholders, he expressed optimism for the future of youth football in Ghana.
As part of the FA's 2024/2025 program, the association has committed to supporting colts football by providing essential resources such as footballs and trophies, and allowing free registration of up to ninety players per club for U13, U15, and U17 categories. The association has also accepted the National Health Insurance card as valid ID for player registration, following consultations with the national juvenile committee and regional football associations.
Mr. Elliot Dadey, CEO of the KGL Foundation, stated that since 2021, the Foundation's support has extended beyond providing kits and equipment. He emphasized the investment in a belief system, allowing football to become a viable path for young players to pursue their dreams.
