2025 GJA Awards: Dwumfuor Extends Invitation to President Mahama as Guest Speaker

Accra: Mr Albert Kwabena Dwumfuor, the President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), has extended an invitation to President John Dramani Mahama to be the special guest of honour at the Association's 2025 Awards Ceremony to be held in Kumasi. Mr Dwumfuor extended the invitation during a visit by the GJA Executives to the President in Accra.

According to Ghana News Agency, the Awards night is planned for either the last week of October 2025 or the first week of November 2025, contingent on the President's availability and convenience. The GJA Executives visited the Presidency to discuss various issues with the President for his attention.

Mr Dwumfuor mentioned, "Your Excellency, the GJA Award has been held in Accra for 28 years. This year, with my team in consultation with key stakeholders, I've decided to move the award from Accra to Kumasi." He further expressed his satisfaction that the King, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has agreed to host the awards at Manhyia.

President John Dramani Mahama, in response, requested the GJA Executives to submit their budget for the 2025 Awards Event to Mr Felix Ofosu Kwakye, the Presidential Spokesperson and Minister in-charge of Government Communications, for review. This step would help the Government determine the support required for organizing the event.

Regarding the land title deeds for the GJA Headquarters property, allocated to the Association during former President John Agyekum Kufuor's tenure, President Mahama suggested that the Lands Commission ensure its registration under the GJA's name. As a trained journalist and communications specialist, as well as a GJA member, President Mahama assured that the Government and other corporate entities would support the GJA's initiative to construct a modern headquarters complex.
