Suke: A total of 105 women smallholder farmers in Suke in the Lambussie District have received certified seeds to improve sustainable crop production and enhance food security in the area.
According to Ghana News Agency, the initiative is being implemented by CAPECS Ghana in partnership with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Ghana, funded by the Governments of Denmark and Luxembourg. It aims to empower vulnerable women through climate-smart agriculture, access to finance, and sustainable livelihoods. The support package includes maize seeds, soybean seeds, cowpea seeds, and organic manure to enhance agricultural productivity and economic resilience.
Mr. Abu Dokuwie Alhassan, the Executive Director of CAPECS Ghana, speaking at a brief ceremony to present the items, said the project seeks to empower farmers, particularly women, with resources, skills, and capacity to adopt economic resilience and climate-change agricultural practices. He emphasized, "Investing in women is key to unlocking innovative solutions that enhance productivity and ensure sustainable food security for all."
Mr. Alhassan encouraged the beneficiaries to leverage the initiative to build resilience and address challenges such as poverty, hunger, and malnutrition. The initiatives are part of the CAPECS Ghana flagship project dubbed: 'Boosting Women's Economic Resilience and Inclusion in Decision-making and Peacebuilding'. "I believe that this project will strengthen livelihoods, maintaining peace and strengthening social cohesion within Suke and its environs," Mr. Alhassan stated.
He further emphasized that CAPECS Ghana and its partners are committed to empowering women in peacebuilding efforts within the district to maintain long-lasting peace in Suke. "CAPECS Ghana and its partners are committed to empowering and building women's capacity to play a crucial role in the development of communities and ensure peaceful co-existence to curb violent menace," Mr. Alhassan said.
The beneficiaries expressed gratitude to CAPECS Ghana, UNDP, and their partners for their support, pledging to improve their livelihoods and contribute to national food security.
