Sefwi Wiawso: Mr Wilberforce Petty Brentum, the newly appointed Western North Regional Minister, has officially taken office, urging stakeholders, including traditional authorities, regional coordinating staff, and the public, to engage in comprehensive collaboration for the region's accelerated development.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Brentum expressed gratitude for the support pledged by the acting coordinating director and encouraged the council staff to maintain professionalism in their roles to successfully implement the President's agenda for the region. He appreciated the warm reception and the assurance provided by the coordinating director, which he believes will aid in achieving his vision for the Western North Region.
In his inaugural address to the Western North Regional Coordinating Council, Mr Brentum warned against any efforts to undermine government initiatives. He outlined his plans to form a team to assess mining activities in the region and develop strategies to combat illegal mining and logging. He emphasized the importance of collaborating with state institutions to identify and manage regional challenges effectively.
Mr Brentum also expressed concern over the declining cocoa production in the area, assuring that necessary measures would be implemented to address the issue. He advised cocoa farmers to diversify their income sources by exploring other business opportunities due to the decreasing viability of cocoa farming.
The regional minister acknowledged the support from regional chiefs during his vetting process and appealed for their continued assistance to facilitate the region's development. Accompanying him to his office were regional executives of the NDC, led by Regional Chairman Mr Michael Aidoo, along with some constituency executives and party supporters.
