WASCAL Launches Third Batch of Energy and Green Hydrogen Programme

Accra: The Third batch of the International Masters Programme in Energy and Green Hydrogen has been launched to explore green hydrogen ideas. Under the programme, about 60 students from the West African sub-region are given scholarships to study green hydrogen in Germany. The West African Science Service Centre on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use (WASCAL) is leading the programme.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Fredrik Landshoft, Germany's Ambassador to Ghana, highlighted Africa's vast renewable energy resources and emphasized the importance of nurturing skills to explore them. He stated that education unlocks opportunities, and Germany is proud to partner with WASCAL in the masters programme.

Professor Emmanuel Wendsongre Ramde, Executive Director at WASCAL, described the programme as a seed of hope for home-grown science and innovative solutions to climate issues. Over 120 students in West Africa have completed the two and a half year scholarship programme, shaping the future of energy solutions in the region.

Prof. Christoph Rovekamp, Head of the Division F22 of BMFTR in Germany, praised WASCAL for connecting people, states, and innovative ideas across Africa. He also announced the addition of another German partner to the programme and expressed hope for welcoming more green hydrogen students.

WASCAL has also launched the WASCAL Innovative Ideas Competition for Sustainable Energy (WISE) to encourage the development of green hydrogen energy ideas and solutions.
