Veep Receives Heroine’s Welcome on First Visit to Hometown Komenda

Komenda: Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang received a rousing heroine's welcome on Sunday as she visited her hometown, Komenda, for the first time since assuming office seven months ago. Her historic achievement as Ghana's first female Vice President has brought immense pride to the ancient coastal town and the nation.According to Ghana News Agency, hundreds of jubilant residents lined the streets and gathered at the forecourt of the chief's palace, cheering, singing, and dancing as she made her way to the Palace of Okatakyi Komeh VIII, Omanhen of Komenda, and his council of chiefs. She responded with waves and warm smiles, visibly moved by the heartfelt reception. The event took on a festive atmosphere as Prof. Opoku-Agyemang returned home to officially thank the chiefs and people for their unwavering support during her campaign and subsequent rise to the high office.She was accompanied by Mr. Ekow Panyin Okyere Eduamoah, Central Regional Minister; Madam Abla Dzifah Gomashie, Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture; Madam Maame Efua Houadjeto, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority; Members of Parliament, District Chief Executives, and regional heads of security agencies. Addressing the traditional leaders, the Vice President expressed appreciation for their contributions to the National Democratic Congress' resounding victory in the 2024 general election.'We were amazed by our landslide victory,' she said, calling for continued collaboration, prayers, and wise counsel to help the government realize its vision for the country. In response to a passionate appeal from the Omanhen regarding the Komenda Sugar Factory, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang reaffirmed the government's commitment to reviving the factory to create jobs and stimulate economic growth in the area.She also assured the people that government would address pressing issues in other sectors such as roads, education, and fisheries, while emphasizing the need for patience as developmental projects roll out. She stressed that the government would ensure equitable distribution of national resources. Okatakyi Komeh VIII congratulated the Vice President on her historic achievement and pledged his continued support. He emphasized the importance of reviving the Komenda Sugar Factory, describing it as a 'critical national asset' and cautioned against allowing it to become a white elephant.The Omanhen also highlighted challenges in the community, including poor road infrastructure and the deteriorating condition of the Komenda College of Education. He appealed for support to rehabilitate these facilities and called for the expansion of the local fishing bay to accommodate more canoes. He further invited the Vice President to participate in the community's upcoming festival. As a symbolic gesture, Okatakyi Komeh presented the Vice President with a Bible, encouraging her to seek divine guidance in her leadership journey.Mr. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, Board Chairman of Ghana COCOBOD, also addressed the gathering, expressing gratitude for the community's support during the election campaign.
