Tunis: El colibri y la acacia – the Spanish version of Maher Abderrahmane’s Le colibri et l’acacia (the Hummingbird and the Acacia) – won the prize of the best Arab novel transated to Spanish in 2023. The prize is granted by Spanish SIAL Pygmalion publishing house.

Maher Abderrahmane, a journalist and a writer- will receive the prize at an official ceremony set for June 13 as part of Madrid Book Fair (May 31-June 16).

The Spanish version of the novel was published in October 2023 well in advance of the original version in Arabic (March 2024- Dar al-Kitab).

An English version was also published last April for the readership in Latin America, the writer told TAP.

El colibri y la acacia recounts real events during the 2011 Revolution through the lens of a young TV cameraman.
