Twifo Praso: A 14-year-old Form Two student from Twifo Praso DA Basic School lost his life after drowning in the Pra River located in the Twifo Atti Morkwa District of the Central Region. The incident occurred during a fishing trip with friends.
According to Ghana News Agency, the teenager, identified as Nana Asamoah, also known as 'Yesu Papa,' had ventured to the river with three friends. During the outing, he reportedly claimed he could swim across the river's deepest section, despite his friends' warnings.
Disregarding their advice, Asamoah jumped into the river but did not emerge. His friends attempted to locate him but were unsuccessful. They subsequently informed local elders at Twifo Praso, who organized a search party. After performing libations and incantations led by Okyeame D C Kwakye of Twifo Tuffoe, Asamoah's body was recovered from the river.
The Twifo Atti Morkwa District Police Commander, Superintendent Charles Addei Boateng, confirmed the tragic event. He stated that the body has been taken to the Twifo Atti Morkwa District Hospital mortuary for further investigation. The incident has left the community in shock, prompting calls for greater caution around natural water bodies.
