Techiman: Mr. Johnson Kwabena Adom, the Techiman North Municipal Chief Executive in the Bono East Region, has called upon unemployed youth and graduates to leverage government initiatives to secure decent employment and improve their socio-economic status. He highlighted President Mahama's 'Adwumawura' Programme, the Feed Ghana Initiative, and the National Apprenticeship Programme as key opportunities for job creation and poverty alleviation, encouraging the youth to take advantage of these programs.
According to Ghana News Agency, during a media interaction at Tuobodom, the municipal capital, Mr. Adom emphasized the availability of numerous employable skills training opportunities provided by the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) and the National Youth Agency (NYA). He explained that these training programs not only offer immediate employment prospects but also empower participants to start their own businesses by providing necessary support upon completion.
Youth empowerment is a critical element in building a resilient economy, Mr. Adom noted, citing the introduction of various policies and programs by President Mahama aimed at creating decent jobs, fostering financial independence, and promoting dignified living among the youth. He also encouraged those with entrepreneurial ambitions to seek mentorship and capital through the YEA office in the municipality.
Elaborating on the Feed Ghana Initiative, Mr. Adom urged the youth to engage in commercial farming and livestock production to enhance food availability for both local consumption and export. He noted that through the National Apprenticeship Programme, the YEA aims to generate employment by equipping the youth with essential skills.
Mr. Adom revealed plans by the Assembly to launch a large-scale farming project under the Feed Ghana Initiative, which would serve as an alternative job creation strategy and boost food productivity in the region. He also commended President Mahama for facilitating the timely disbursement of the District Assembly's Common Fund (DACF) and expressed the Assembly's commitment to enhancing its Internally Generated Funds to support municipal development.
