Tamale Technical University Registrar Enskinned Chief of Shigu Community

Tamale: Alhaji Yakubu Iddrisu, Registrar, Tamale Technical University (TaTU), has been enskinned Chief of Shigu community under the Sagnarigu Traditional Area in the Northern Region. The distinguished academic and longest-serving Registrar of TaTU now assumed the chieftaincy title Shi-Naa following the enskinment.



According to Ghana News Agency, he was enskinned by Sagnar-Naa Yakubu Abdulai, Paramount Chief of Sagnarigu Traditional Area. His enskinment followed the traditional endorsement by Sagnar-Naa Abdulai, who presented the customary Kola Nuts to him to signify approval after the chieftaincy seat became vacant.



Shi-Naa Alhaji Yakubu Iddrisu is recognised as the first Registrar of TaTU after its transition from Tamale Polytechnic to a Technical University. In his acceptance speech, the newly enskinned Shi-Naa expressed profound gratitude to the people of Shigu and Sagnarigu Traditional Council for the honour bestowed on him.



He said, ‘I will work with the chiefs and elders, religious leaders, women’s groups, and youth groups to ensure peace, harmony, tranquility, and development.’ Highlighting his leadership credentials at TaTU, he said ‘As Registrar, I have been responsible for the overall operations of the University and have developed an excellent understanding of the committee and board system of administration. I played a key role in the transition of Tamale Polytechnic to a Technical University and continue to lead the University’s administrative front ensuring effective communication and sound policy formulation at all levels of governance.’



Shi-Naa Alhaji Iddrisu called on residents of Shigu to actively contribute to the development of the community. He said, ‘Let us all play our part to make Shigu an attractive destination for investors and development. My doors shall remain open to all and I shall lead without discrimination.’



Management and staff of TaTU, who attended the coronation, expressed pride in Shi-Naa Alhaji Iddrisu’s achievement. They commended the Shigu community and the traditional council for the confidence reposed in him and pledged their continued support for his new role in promoting development in the area.



Shi-Naa Alhaji Iddrisu holds a Master of Public Administration and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Ghana. He also earned a Master of Science in Organizational Development from the University for Development Studies and a Postgraduate Diploma in Organizational Development from the University of Cape Coast. Professionally, he is a full member of the Chartered Institute of Administrators and Management Consultants, Ghana, and holds the Chartered Professional Administrator (ChPA) designation. He also has an Executive Mastery in Organizational Development and Appreciative Leadership from Florida, USA, and is an Organization Development Certified Consultant.
