System Disturbances: GRIDCo/ECG Apologize to Customers

Accra: The Ghana Grid Company LTD. (GRIDCo) and the Electricity Company of Ghana have announced a loss of power supply to some customers due to a system disturbance.

According to Ghana News Agency, a joint statement issued by GRIDCo and ECG stated that the disturbance occurred at 1342 hours on Thursday, 1st May. The incident was caused by a tipper truck discharging stones at a private developer’s construction site near the Nkawkaw – Konongo Transmission Line. The truck’s bucket lifted into the line conductor, resulting in damage and a subsequent system disturbance.

The statement further explained that the incident led to the tripping of all power plants at Aboadze and Anwomaso. This caused an interruption in the power supply to the Western, Central, and Northern parts of the country, as well as some customers in Accra.

GRIDCo and ECG noted that engineers had been mobilized to the location to repair the damaged transmission line. Efforts were underway to restore power to all affected areas by 1800 hours on Thursday. The companies expressed their apologies for the inconvenience caused by the incident.
