Police Detain Suspected NDC Supporters Amid Ashanti Council of State Election Re-Run

Kumasi: The Police have apprehended several individuals believed to be supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for allegedly attempting to disrupt the ongoing Council of State election re-run at the Prempeh Assembly Hall in Kumasi.

According to Ghana News Agency, the election in Ashanti is being re-conducted after last week's process was interrupted by unidentified individuals. The initial election was marred by chaos when thugs stormed the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council, the original venue of the election, and caused substantial damage.

The assailants attacked everyone present, destroying ballot boxes, tables, chairs, and ballot papers. The chaos resulted in injuries to numerous people, including journalists covering the event. The re-run is taking place under heightened security to prevent further disruptions.
