EC Announces September 30 for Tamale Central By-Election

Tamale: The Electoral Commission (EC) has scheduled September 30, 2025, for the Tamale Central by-election following the untimely demise of Member of Parliament, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammad. The announcement was made in a statement by Mrs. Jean Mensa, Chairperson of the EC, aligning with Article 112 (5) of the Constitution, as amended.

According to Ghana News Agency, the EC will be accepting nominations from prospective candidates from September 8 to 10 at the Tamale Metropolitan Office. The nomination process will take place between 0900 to 1200 hours and 1400 to 1700 hours. Interested candidates are encouraged to download the nomination forms from the EC's website, available from August 19 to September 10.

The filing fee is set at GHC10,000.00 for all candidates, with a reduced fee of GHC7,500.00 for female candidates and persons with disabilities. The statement clarifies that prospective candidates can personally deliver their completed forms or have them delivered by their proposer or seconder.

The completed nomination forms must be submitted to the Returning Officer at the designated office. Each form should be accompanied by the signatures of two registered voters as proposer and seconder, along with support from 18 additional registered voters in the constituency.

The statement further instructed that the forms should bear the candidate's consent and be submitted with two postcard-size photographs against a red background, featuring the candidate's full face and ears. All forms must be delivered in quadruplicate, as specified by the EC.
