Over 500 Individuals Benefit from Free Health Screening by Sompa FM in Sunyani

Sunyani: More than 500 people, primarily women and the elderly, benefited from a free health screening exercise in the Sunyani municipality and surrounding areas over the weekend. The event, held at the Sunyani Coronation Park, was organized by the management of Sompa FM, a Sunyani-based radio station, with support from several partners. This marked the fourth edition of the Sompa Health Clinic, an annual health outreach initiative by the FM station.

According to Ghana News Agency, the beneficiaries were screened for various health conditions, including ear, nose, throat, eye, and dental issues. There were also tests conducted for blood sugar levels, blood pressure levels, body mass index, and services related to physiotherapy and gynecology. The event was made possible through partnerships with the 21st Clinic, Heaven's Laboratory Services, A and A Medical Centre, Owusu Memorial Hospital, Gengimed Dental Clinic, Bosomtwi Urology Hospital, and the St Ignatius Eye Center.

Some attendees with serious health conditions were referred for further medical attention, while others received medications on-site. Mr. Yaw Aboagye Boadi, the General Manager of Sompa FM, expressed gratitude to the partners for their support and emphasized the importance of such partnerships. He explained that the clinic was established in 2022 as part of the station's corporate social responsibility efforts to improve community health and sports.

Beneficiaries of the event expressed gratitude for the opportunity to learn about their health status. Mrs. Martha Mensah, a participant, shared her excitement and appreciation for the screening exercise, thanking the station and its partners. Okyeame Kwaku Okyere, another participant from Yamfo in the Tano North Municipality of the Ahafo Region, encouraged the continuation of the health screenings to benefit the poor and vulnerable. He noted that financial constraints often prevent people from seeking regular medical checkups.

Mr. Mohammed Mahamud, a resident of Abesim near Sunyani, also praised the initiative and expressed hope that such events would be organized at the community level. He commended Sompa FM and its partners for their efforts in promoting health awareness and accessibility in the region.
