Wenchi: Osagyefo Ampem Anye Amoampong Tabrako III, the Paramount Chief of the Wenchi Traditional Area in the Bono Region, has appealed to the youth to actively participate in enhancing sanitation within the community. He highlighted the crucial role that young people play in maintaining a clean environment and preventing the spread of communicable diseases.
According to Ghana News Agency, the Traditional Council, in partnership with the Wenchi Municipal Assembly, has initiated a sanitation campaign aimed at keeping the municipality clean. Osagyefo Tabrako III emphasized that improving sanitation is a top priority in his leadership role as paramount chief. This statement was made during an interview conducted on the sidelines of a clean-up exercise organized by the Wenchi Municipal Assembly.
Osagyefo Tabrako III stressed the importance of collective responsibility in maintaining environmental cleanliness. He noted that the sanitation campaign aligns with government initiatives focused on enhancing waste management and sanitation across the nation. He underscored the importance of proper hygiene as a fundamental aspect of human health and development, stating, "Proper hygiene is the foundation for progress."
The paramount chief also mentioned ongoing collaborations between the Traditional Council and the Assembly to establish and enforce sanitation byelaws in the area. He asserted that progress in the municipality is contingent upon these regulations and announced plans to form a taskforce dedicated to enforcing the sanitation byelaws.
Ms. Gloria Opoku Gyamfi, the Wenchi Municipal Chief Executive, echoed the call for support from all stakeholders in the sanitation campaign. She revealed that the Assembly is working to ensure that every household is equipped with waste bins to curb littering and the indiscriminate disposal of waste. The clean-up exercise saw participants clearing choked gutters and tidying up key areas such as the Wenchi Thursday Market, the old market, Jubilee Park, and the principal streets of the town.
