Accra: The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Tema Metropolitan Office, has engaged the Ghana Immigration Services (GIS), Tema Regional Command, to explore potential collaborations in fulfilling their respective responsibilities. This initiative is part of the Commission’s broader strategy to forge stronger connections with key stakeholders, including security agencies within different districts.
According to Ghana News Agency, Madam Gifty Agyeiwaa Badu, the Tema Metro Director of the NCCE, commended the GIS for its consistent participation in the office’s constitution quiz for security agencies, highlighting that their involvement has made the event both memorable and educative. In 2023, the Tema Metro of the NCCE initiated the security agencies quiz during the constitution week to enhance the knowledge of security personnel, thereby reinforcing their role in upholding the 1992 Constitution.
Ms. Badu provided an overview of the NCCE’s operations, explaining that the commission’s mandate is derived from the 1992 Constitution and Act 452 of 1993. She emphasized that the NCCE is committed to promoting education on the constitution, civic rights, and responsibilities through its flagship programs, including the Constitution Week Celebration, Citizenship Week Celebration, civic clubs, and engagements with schools, faith-based organizations, and security agencies.
Deputy Commissioner of Immigration Evelyn Gyekye, the Tema Regional Commander of the Ghana Immigration Service, expressed appreciation for the NCCE’s efforts to strengthen ties with stakeholders, particularly security agencies. She affirmed their readiness to collaborate and welcomed the NCCE to conduct sensitization sessions on national and civic issues for immigration staff, aiming to enhance their knowledge and capabilities.
