NACOC Director-General Calls for Support from Aflao Paramount Chief in Anti-Drug Campaign

Accra: The Director-General of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), Brigadier General Maxwell Obuba Mantey, along with other top management members, recently paid a courtesy call on His Royal Majesty (HRM) Torgbuga Adzonugaga Amenya Fiti V, the Paramount Chief of the Aflao Traditional Council. The visit aimed to engage the traditional leadership in the campaign against illicit drug trafficking and abuse among the youth in the region and across Ghana.



According to Ghana News Agency, Brigadier General Mantey expressed appreciation for the warm reception from the traditional leadership and appealed for their support in combating the growing issue of drug trafficking and abuse. He emphasized the importance of collaboration with stakeholders to curb the menace, highlighting that the country’s future health and activity depend on the well-being of the next generation.



HRM Amenya Fiti V acknowledged the increasing presence of illicit drug trafficking within his jurisdiction, raising security concerns that demand immediate attention. He pointed out the challenge posed by unapproved routes that facilitate various crimes in Aflao and surrounding areas. The Paramount Chief underscored the need for pragmatic measures to address the situation, welcoming NACOC’s outreach to traditional leaders.



Togbe Fiti voiced concerns about the involvement of some security agency members in aiding drug trafficking, urging leadership to implement measures to tackle the issue. He highlighted the alarming drug smuggling activities at the Aflao Border, particularly at the beaches, calling for NACOC’s intervention.



The visit concluded with a call for enhanced educational campaigns on drug trafficking and abuse, emphasizing the negative impact on the youth. The Paramount Chief advocated for a partnership between traditional authorities and security agencies to effectively combat the issue.
