Man Drowns in River Dah After Torrential Rainfall

Adaklu Kodzobi: Wisdom Tolodo, an employee of a sachet water producing company in Ho, drowned in the river Dah at the outskirts of Adaklu Kodzobi. This incident occurred after a torrential rainfall lasting over three hours caused the river to overflow its banks and cut across the road.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Evans Akpah, Assemblyman for Adaklu Kodzobi Electoral Area, disclosed the details of the incident. Tolodo, a native of Adaklu Kodzobi in his early thirties, was returning from work in Ho when he encountered the dangerous situation. The overflowed river had made it impossible for vehicles or pedestrians to cross the bridge between Ho and Kodzobi.

Eyewitnesses reported that upon reaching the river, Tolodo met others who were unable to cross. Despite being advised against attempting to cross, Tolodo insisted he could make it. Ignoring the warnings, he entered the floodwaters, but was quickly swept away by the swift currents.

Efforts to rescue Tolodo were hampered by the strength of the current. It took about an hour before he was finally discovered and transported to the Municipal hospital in Ho, where he was pronounced dead.

Mr. Akpah highlighted that the overflowing of the river is a recurrent problem due to the low elevation of the bridge, which is inadequate for the volume of water during heavy rains. This situation poses a significant challenge for local residents, workers, and students from the University of Health and Allied Sciences during the rainy season.

In response to the tragedy, Mr. Akpah has appealed to the Adaklu District Assembly and the government for assistance in reconstructing the bridge to prevent future incidents.
