Dzodze Dzesime: In line with the President's directive to reduce costs associated with Ghana's 68th Independence Anniversary celebrations, the Ketu North Municipal Assembly organized a clean-up exercise to mark the occasion. The exercise, held in the early hours of Thursday, March 6, at Dzodze Dzesime, brought together security agencies, the Municipal Assembly, Environmental Health officials, former MCE, Member of Parliament, and local residents, all working together to improve sanitation in the area.
According to Ghana News Agency, speaking at the event, Mr. Eric Edem Agbana, Member of Parliament for Ketu North, emphasised the importance of environmental hygiene and urged citizens to develop a culture of cleanliness. 'Keeping our surroundings clean should not be a one-time activity, but a daily responsibility. Cleanliness is crucial for our health, well-being, and the overall development of our communities,' he stated. He encouraged residents to embrace communal labour and participate actively in local clean-up exercises to maintain a clean and healthy environment.
The event saw a high turnout, with volunteers cleaning streets, desilting gutters, and properly disposing of waste to promote public health and environmental sustainability. The 68th Independence Anniversary, on the theme: 'Reflect, Review, and Reset,' served as a reminder to Ghanaians to not only celebrate their nation's progress but also take responsibility for its development, including ensuring a clean and sustainable environment.
Local authorities encouraged residents to continue maintaining cleanliness beyond the event, emphasising that sanitation played a critical role in disease prevention and overall community well-being. The clean-up exercise is part of broader efforts to instill a culture of hygiene and civic responsibility among citizens, reinforcing the idea that a cleaner Ghana begins with individual and collective action.
