Ketu South NADMO Warns of Hazards from Parked Trucks at Wudoaba-Segbe Border

Ketu south: Officials of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) in the Ketu South Municipality of the Volta Region have visited the Wudoaba-Segbe border to assess the hazards posed by haulage trucks parked along the Tokor-Dzodze highway. Mr. Ferguson Ahorlu, the NADMO Director of Ketu South, emphasized their primary goal of preventing potential dangers and unforeseen accidents.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Ahorlu pointed out that there are two potential sites for developing parking areas for the trucks: one owned by the Assembly and another by a private individual. Discussions are underway with the landowner to explore the possibility of developing the land for this purpose. Mr. Ahorlu assured that they would report back to the assembly, expecting immediate action to prevent any future disasters.

He highlighted the urgent need for proactive measures to mitigate risks associated with the roadside parked trucks. The importance of addressing these concerns has been underscored by ongoing government plans to rehabilitate the Denu-Ho road, which is anticipated to boost economic activities in the area.

Mr. Ahorlu advised road users to remain cautious and vigilant when traveling along the Tokor-Dzodze highway to Segbe, urging them to take necessary precautions. He reiterated NADMO's commitment to engaging with stakeholders, including assembly members, Unit Committee members, and the public, to discuss disaster prevention strategies and establish a Disaster Volunteer Group (DVG) in all electoral areas.

The DVG will be trained on managing natural disasters, focusing on community involvement in disaster prevention and management. During the visit, NADMO officials also met with personnel from the Custom Service Department to discuss potential solutions, including the development of a parking area for trucks to reduce accident risks.

Truck drivers expressed their satisfaction with NADMO's initiatives and appealed to the Ketu South assembly for assistance in establishing designated parking areas to prevent roadside stops and parking.
