Keta: The Keta Municipal Assembly is set to launch its Municipal Sanitation Day Clean-Up Exercise on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at Anlo-Afiadenyigba to boost cleanliness and better sanitation environment in the municipality.

According to Ghana News Agency, the event is part of President John Dramani Mahama's and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government's 'Clean-Up Ghana' agenda, targeted at promoting good sanitation practices in the country. Mr. Innocent Komla Gawuah, the Keta Municipal Coordinating Director, mentioned that good sanitation is essential for maintaining public health and preventing the spread of diseases.

'Proper waste management and disposal are critical in keeping our environment clean to help reduce the risk of waterborne diseases,' he stated. He emphasized that the government has implemented various policies to promote good sanitation practices, with the 'Clean-Up Ghana' agenda being one of such initiatives aimed at encouraging citizens to actively participate in keeping the environment clean.

Mr. Gawuah urged stakeholders and organizations within the municipality to play a crucial role in promoting good sanitation practices and integrate them into their daily routines. 'The Keta Municipal Assembly is working with local communities, organizations, and individuals to ensure the success of the sanitation day exercise,' he noted.

He explained that poor sanitation could have severe effects on public health and the environment, with inadequate waste management potentially leading to the spread of diseases, pollution of water sources, and environmental degradation. The Assembly is calling on the public to join hands in keeping the environment clean and encouraged residents to participate in the sanitation day exercise and make it a habit to maintain clean surroundings at all times.
