Police Restore Calm After Unlawful Demonstration at Tamale Technical University

Accra: The Northern Regional Police Command announced that it has restored calm at Tamale Technical University after an unlawful demonstration erupted on Tuesday, September 16, 2025. Officers were deployed to the campus to prevent further disturbances.

According to Ghana News Agency, Chief Inspector Luckman N. Alhassan, the Regional Public Relations Officer, issued a press release detailing the incident. Intelligence reports indicated that about 500 students gathered in front of the university's administration block around 9:00 am. In response, a police team led by Superintendent Mr. Richard Lantei Odartey was dispatched to the scene to maintain order.

The situation escalated when demonstrating students set vehicle tires on fire at various points, including the main entrance of the school and in front of the Police Post. The students became aggressive upon the arrival of the police, resulting in stone-pelting that left three students and three police officers injured. All injured individuals are receiving treatment at the hospital.

Despite the tensions, no damage to school properties or police facilities was reported. The police successfully managed to control the situation and restore peace on campus, as confirmed by the Public Relations Unit.
