ICDP Ghana Holds Training for Social Groups in Akropong-Akuapem

Akropong-Akuapem: The International Child Development Programme (ICDP), in partnership with Starr Ghana and the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, has initiated a training program for social groups within the Akuapem North Municipality. The training, held at the Business Resource Centre in Akropong-Akuapem, was themed 'Every Voice Counts' and focused on citizens' equity and affirmative rights.

According to Ghana News Agency, the training aimed to address and raise awareness about equity and affirmative rights at grassroots, local, and national levels, ensuring that voices are heard regardless of gender, social class, or religion. Nana Adwoa Afriyie Bonsu, the programs manager of ICDP, highlighted the broader spectrum of the project, which encompasses gender rights and empowerment.

She explained that the program revolves around three main components: Inclusive Elections, Inclusive Participation, and Accountable Governance. The goal is to ensure inclusive decision-making processes where no one is left behind. Nana Afriyie Bonsu further elaborated that decision-making extends beyond governance to all aspects of society.

Emphasizing the importance of rights enshrined in the 1992 Constitution of Ghana, Nana Afriyie Bonsu urged the enforcement of legal provisions to make public facilities more accessible for individuals with disabilities.

Madam Thelma Thompson, a board member of ICDP, focused on gender equity and affirmative action, stressing that both male and female genders have specific roles. She stated that societal contracts require emotional and psychological protection for men, women, and children, which involves creating a supportive environment, fostering resilience, and promoting well-being.
