Tema: The Tema Regional office of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has conferred with Ms. Ebi Bright, the Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive, on identifying and boosting tourism prospects in Tema. The meeting forms part of GTA's effort to meet with various stakeholders within the tourism sector in Tema to harness their contribution to make tourism thrive within the metropolis.
According to Ghana News Agency, Ms. Bright expressed gratitude to the GTA for the initiative, adding that President John Mahama's administration has a vision to improve the tourism sector in the country through the Resetting Agenda. She further hinted that with focused collaborations, Tema would bounce back to its previous glory tourism-wise, noting that more damage had been perpetrated to the planned Tema city and its rich tourism attractions as established by Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
She noted that Dr. Nkrumah's demise took Tema off the progressive radar, and she said that she would ensure that most of the tourist attractions in Tema that have been abandoned would be revived to attract investors and tourists in and outside the country. The MCE stated that many people within Tema were not exposed to the vision of the planned Tema city; hence, the reason for them doing things without following due processes.
'Tema remained the gateway to the rest of the world, and people must understand that,' she noted. She mentioned the Greenwich Meridian line, the harbour, and the Tema Meridian Hotel, among other iconic projects which distinguish Tema from the rest of the world, adding that the Tema Metropolitan Assembly would partner with the GTA and other institutions within the tourism sector to make Tema a hub for tourist attraction.
Mr. Isaac Asiam, the Director of the GTA Tema Region, thanked the MCE for her warm reception, saying that the Ghana Tourism Authority was ready to uplift the tourism prospects in Tema. Mr. Asiam appealed to the MCE to ensure that the issuing of permits and licenses to hotels and other hospitality facilities would be swift and devoid of bureaucratic bottlenecks to make the tourism sector in Tema develop rapidly.
He stated that similar gestures would be replicated across the various districts within the Tema region to make tourism lucrative within GTA operational areas.
