Government Increases Cocoa Producer Price to GH?5,800 Per Tonne

General

Accra: The Government has announced an upward adjustment of the cocoa producer price to GH?5,800 per tonne following an emergency meeting of the Producer Price Review Committee. Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Finance Minister, revealed that the new pricing translates to 3,625 per bag of 64 kilogrammes, representing an increase of about GH?400 per bag, which equates to a 12.27 percent rise from the price set in August.

According to Ghana News Agency, the producer price for the 2025/2026 crop season was initially set at GH?51,660 per tonne in August, translating to GH?3,228.75 per 64kg bag. This marked an increase from the previous season’s price of GH?49,600 per tonne. The newly adjusted price is set to take effect on Friday, 3rd October 2025.

The revised pricing leaves unchanged the margins, fees, and rates for all other stakeholders, including the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD). Dr. Forson clarified that the previous price setting was based on projections of global cocoa prices and exchange rates, which have since undergone changes necessitating the revision of the producer’s price.

Dr. Forson assured that COCOBOD would maintain its efforts to support cocoa production and enhance the welfare of cocoa farmers. This includes the intensified supply of free cocoa fertilisers, insecticides, spraying machines, fungicides, and flower inducers. Moreover, COCOBOD is on track to implement a new Tertiary Education Scholarship Scheme for the children of cocoa farmers starting in the 2026/27 academic year.

The Government continues to pledge its support to the Ghana Cocoa Board in its mission to develop a robust and resilient cocoa industry, aiming to provide sustainable and optimal benefits to all stakeholders involved.
