GJA Elections Committee Urges Members to Disregard ‘Fake’ Voter Register

Accra: The Elections Committee of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has called on its members to ignore a 'fake voters' list' that has been circulating on social media. The committee emphasized the importance of relying on the official voters' register, which has been authenticated by both the GJA General Secretary and Treasurer.

According to Ghana News Agency, a statement from Mr. Peter Martey Agbeko, Chairman of the GJA Elections Committee, described the circulating list as a 'mischievous fabrication.' The statement further clarified that only the officially signed voters' register should be trusted by the members.

The GJA is preparing for elections scheduled on Monday, June 30, 2025, to elect national and regional officers for the next three-year term. Voting will take place between 0800 hours and 1500 hours at designated centers nationwide. A total of 62 candidates, with 13 at the national level and 49 across the regions, have been cleared to contest various positions.

The Elections Committee has also advised members to maintain decorum at voting centers, noting that police presence will be on standby to address any issues. Voters are reminded to bring valid identification, such as the Ghana Card, Voters' Identification Cards, or Passport, all of which must include the journalist's name and photograph.

Key national positions being contested include President, Vice President, General Secretary, Organising Secretary, Treasurer, and Public Affairs Officer. The presidential race is notably a two-way contest between incumbent Albert Kwabena Dwumfour and Charles Yao Mawusi. The Vice President position features an all-female contest between Rebecca Ekpe and Mary Tawiah Mensah. Dominic Hlordzi and Akwasi Agyeman are vying for the General Secretary position.
