Tunis: Kaouther Ben Hania’s Tunisian film ‘Four Daughters’ has been nominated in seven categories at the 8th edition of the ‘Critics Awards for Arab Films’ organised by the Arab Cinema Centre – ACC, on the fringes of the Cannes Film Festival. Other nominees include composer Amine Bouhafa, actor Majd Mastoura and actress Hend Sabry.

In a document received by TAP, the Arab Cinema Centre unveiled the final list of nominees for the 2024 Critics Awards for Arab Films, including feature films and shorts.

‘Goodbye Julia’ by Mohammed Kordofani (Sudan), ‘Inshallah a Boy’ by Amjad Al Rasheed (Jordan), Hajjan by Abu Bakr Shawky (Saudi Arabia) and ‘The Teacher’ by Farah Nabulsi (Palestine) are among the films shortlisted for the various awards.

The nominees have been selected from all Arab films produced and premiered outside the Arab world during the calendar year 2023 only.

They will be voted on by a jury of 209 critics from 72 countries around the world.

The list of winners will be announced on Saturday May 18 du
ring the ceremony organised in conjunction with the 77th Cannes Film Festival (May 14-25).

Four Daughters (107′, 2023) is a documentary feature film directed by Kaouther Ben Hania. It has been nominated for Best Director, Best Documentary, Best Actor (Majd Mastoura), Best Actress (Hend Sabry), Best Music (Amine Bouhafa), Best Cinematography (Farouk LaSridh) and Best Editing (Qutaiba Barhamji).

Ben Hania’s fifth feature, which is Tunisia’s entry for the 2024 Oscars, is a co-production between Tunisia (Cinetelefilms prod), France, Saudi Arabia and Germany. It had its world premiere at the 76th Cannes Film Festival (May 16-27, 2023).

The music is by the renowned Tunisian composer Amine Bouhafa, also nominated for a Saudi Arabian feature film, HAJJAN.

Egypt-based actress Hend Sabry is nominated for Best Actress in Four Daughters and Kira and El Gin by Egyptian director Marwan Hamed.

The Arab Film Critics’ Awards are presented each year at a ceremony held during the Cannes Film Festival. The first edition too
k place on the sidelines of the 70th Cannes Film Festival.
