Fathers in Ho Celebrate Role Models

Accra: A group of male professionals in Ho, under the banner of Hearts of Fathers, has reaffirmed the importance and dignity of fatherhood in society. They have used a series of activities to mark this year's Fathers' Day and to promote responsible parenting in the Volta Regional capital, Ho.

According to Ghana News Agency, as part of the commemorative activities, members of the group embarked on a clean-up exercise at the Ho Central Market. The initiative saw members sweeping, desilting drains, and cleaning the market environment to promote good sanitation. The group, led by its chairman, Mr. Prosper Chokah, marked this year's Father's Day under the theme: 'Fathers Celebrating Fathers - A Motivation for Fatherhood.'

Members distributed customised aprons to men selling women-dominated items, keep-fit exercise, a dinner awards night, and a special church service. Speaking during the climax of the celebration, Mr. Chokah said the occasion was not only to honour fathers but to send a strong message about the transformational power of fatherhood within families and the larger society.

Mr. Chokah emphasized that fatherhood is more than a biological role, describing it as a spiritual, moral, and generational responsibility that demands recognition and support, particularly in a fast-changing world. He noted that fatherhood is under pressure, with challenges of parenting multiplying and work-life balance becoming increasingly difficult. Despite these, many fathers continue to carry burdens, provide for their homes, and shape the futures of their children without recognition.

He explained that the group's celebration was a humble way of acknowledging the silent sacrifices of fathers. On Saturday evening, the group hosted a dinner event where selected hardworking fathers were presented with citations and gifts in recognition of their dedication to family and community life.

The four-day programme was rounded off on Sunday with a special mass service at the Ho - Bankoe Roman Catholic Church, where members offered prayers for strength, wisdom, and sustainability in fatherhood. The chairman used the platform to call for a collective commitment from fathers to be more present in the lives of their children and communities.

Mr. Chokah announced plans by Hearts of Fathers to roll out mentorship initiatives, fatherhood forums, workshops, and strategic partnerships aimed at strengthening responsible fatherhood in the region and beyond. He concluded by reminding fathers that while fatherhood is a blessing, it is equally a mission - one to serve, guide, protect, and build for future generations.
