Ada West: Electrochem Ghana Limited (EGL), a subsidiary of the McDan Group, has collaborated with Ecozoil Limited, part of the Jospong Group of Companies, to organize a shoreline cleanup at Lolonya in the Ada West District. The initiative aimed to foster a cleaner environment, particularly in light of a recent cholera outbreak.
According to Ghana News Agency, the joint cleanup effort took place over the weekend and involved management, workers from both companies, and community members. Naana Adiki Manyeyo Adi I, Head of Sustainability and Community Development at EGL, emphasized that the initiative was part of the company's regular community cleanup activities. She noted that Ecozoil's expertise in beach cleaning was a valuable addition to the effort.
Naana Adi highlighted the importance of the collaboration in demonstrating a shared commitment to environmental sustainability and the preservation of coastal ecosystems. She explained that EGL relies on seawater from the community's shores for its operations, making it crucial to promote good sanitation practices in the area.
She also expressed concerns about the prevalence of open defecation along the coast and urged residents to adopt better sanitation habits, especially with the rainy season approaching. "Together, we're working to keep our communities clean and safe, as a cleaner environment means a healthier future for all," she added.
Mr. Joseph Rockson Mawusour Ahuakese, the assembly member for the Lolonyo area, praised the companies for their initiative and acknowledged their ongoing support for the community. He also appealed to the management of the company to consider supporting cleanup exercises initiated by the community to further enhance their efforts in keeping the shores clean.
