Dr. Amoakohene Applauds MTN Ghana, Reaffirms Government’s Commitment to Quality Education

Kumasi: Dr. Frank Amoakohene, Ashanti Regional Minister, has reaffirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to creating a conducive environment for education across the country. Speaking at the MTN Bright Scholarship Awards ceremony held in Kumasi, the Minister emphasised that education remained a central pillar in the government’s vision for national development. He highlighted several ongoing initiatives aimed at strengthening Ghana’s educational ecosystem, including increased investment in infrastructure, the promotion of digital learning, and expanded access to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) opportunities. He noted that these interventions were designed to prepare young Ghanaians to compete globally in a rapidly changing technological landscape. Through partnerships with private sector stakeholders like MTN, the government was creating platforms that empowered students to reach their full potential.



According to Ghana News Agency, the Minister praised MTN Ghana for its Bright Scholarship initiative, which continued to support brilliant but needy students in pursuing higher education. Dr. Amoakohene also underscored the government’s digital transformation agenda, revealing that efforts were underway to equip schools with modern learning tools, improve access to online resources, and train teachers in innovative teaching methods. Additionally, he assured differently abled students of the government’s dedication to creating equal opportunities for learning, while highlighting the provision of targeted interventions and accessible infrastructure.



A total of 500 beneficiaries, comprising 300 students and 200 teachers, have been awarded scholarships for the 2025/2026 academic year by the MTN Ghana Foundation under its flagship education initiative. The Foundation received over 3,600 applications nationwide, of which 1,200 were shortlisted before selecting the final 500 beneficiaries. The initiative, which has over the years provided a lifeline for many brilliant but needy students, forms part of MTN’s long-term commitment to empowering education in Ghana.



Mr. Stephen Blewett, the Chief Executive Officer of MTN Ghana, in a speech delivered on his behalf, revealed that the beneficiaries were drawn from 42 tertiary institutions across the country. Of the total awardees, 37.4 per cent are females and 62.6 per cent males, while 33 beneficiaries are differently abled, reflecting MTN’s commitment to inclusivity and equal opportunities in education. ‘At MTN and the MTN Foundation, we remain unwavering in our commitment to education. We believe that investing in people is the surest way to bridge the poverty gap, improve livelihoods, and accelerate Ghana’s development,’ Mr. Blewett stated. He said the MTN Ghana Foundation aimed to support 1,500 students and teachers over the next three years through the scholarship programme. He also highlighted some remarkable achievements of past beneficiaries, noting that 10 graduates emerged as valedictorians, while 520 others graduated with first-class honours, demonstrating the significant impact of the initiative.
