Tadzewu: A severely damaged culvert on the Tadzewu-Gefia road at Dadame, near Wovenu Senior High Technical School, poses a deadly threat to motorists and commuters, prompting urgent calls for swift government intervention. The culvert, which has been in disrepair for over three years, has eroded more than half of the roadway, leaving a deep and dangerous cavity. So far, it has reportedly claimed one life and left another person with serious injuries.
According to Ghana News Agency, motorists and residents described the situation as dire, expressing frustration over the lack of response despite multiple appeals and public protests. Seth Dzotefe, a concerned resident, said: "We've protested, we've called on our leaders, but nothing has been done. The only action taken was by the Unit Committee Member, who tied a reflector around it. That's all."
He recounted a tragic incident where two motorbike riders from Abor, unaware of the culvert's collapse, plunged into the hole-resulting in one fatality and serious injuries to the other. Other residents, including Madam Akos Awudi and her friend Ishia Avi, explained that the culvert was originally constructed to channel the Dada stream from the Ashiagborvi area in Ave-Xevi. Since its collapse, however, heavy rains cause the stream to overflow, rendering the road impassable and treacherous.
Motorcyclists expressed concern for unfamiliar travelers, noting that while locals know how to carefully navigate the area, outsiders are at risk of unknowingly driving into the damaged section-especially at night when blinding headlights from oncoming vehicles can obscure visibility. The community is now appealing to the Ketu North Municipal Assembly and the Ghana Highway Authority to take immediate action.
Residents say the damaged culvert has become a silent killer and must no longer be ignored. "This road is vital to our daily activities-students, traders, and workers all depend on it," a rider stressed. "If nothing is done soon, more lives will be lost."
