Sunyani: The Bono Regional Command of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has commenced an investigation to determine the cause of the fire that broke out on Sunday, October 19, in the Sunyani Municipality, resulting in the deaths of a couple.
According to Ghana News Agency, the police recovered the charred bodies of the victims, 65-year-old Nana Siribour Ampofo II, a sub-chief at Wenchi, and his 48-year-old wife, Grace Yaa Ampofo. They died when a fire engulfed their five-bedroom house in the New-Dormaa Mango Grove community.
Other residents of the house were able to escape without injury during the blaze, which erupted around 11:00 PM amidst a downpour affecting parts of the Municipality.
Assistant Divisional Officer Grade One (ADO1) Kwame Adomako, the Bono Regional Public Relations Officer of the GNFS, stated to the Ghana News Agency, "We discovered the charred bodies in the kitchen and we can't rule out arson." He urged patience while the investigation proceeds.
ADO1 Adomako also reminded the public to contact the service's emergency line (03520-27129) in the event of a fire outbreak.
