Yeji: Pimampim Yaw Kabrese IV, a Member of the Council of State, has called for improved security to stem the growing trend of armed robberies on the Atebubu-Yeji highway in the Bono East Region.

According to Ghana News Agency, Pimampim Kagbrese IV, who is also the Paramount Chief of the Yeji Traditional Area in the Pru East District, emphasized the urgent need for government intervention due to the recurring armed robbery incidents and the resultant loss of lives and properties. He appealed for the government’s attention to address these security challenges and to fix the road network in the region to facilitate socio-economic growth and development.

The call was made during an interaction with Mr. Francis Owusu Antwi, the Bono East Regional Minister, at Yeji, the capital of the Pru East District. The Regional Minister was visiting as part of his five-day working tour of the region. Pimampim Kabrese IV highlighted that an increased police and military presence on the Atebubu-Yeji highway would significantly reduce armed robbery attacks on passengers and drivers using the route.

Additionally, Pimampim Kabrese IV noted that the poor condition of roads in the area had hindered economic activities, urging the government to prioritize agricultural development. He pointed out that the region’s economy is primarily based on agriculture, and advancing this sector could create job opportunities and enhance the nation’s food productivity.

In response, Mr. Antwi expressed gratitude to the chiefs and residents for their support of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2024 elections. He assured that the government would address development challenges in the region to improve the quality of life for its inhabitants. Mr. Antwi mentioned that steps were being taken to bolster the region’s security by deploying additional police and military personnel.

Mr. Antwi also urged Municipal and District Assemblies to enforce sanitation bylaws to improve sanitation and waste management. Mr. Unas Owusu, the NDC’s Bono East Regional Chairman, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving the region’s road infrastructure. He announced plans to establish farmer service centers to train farmers in the food value chain and confirmed that the Feed Ghana programme was progressing.

The Regional Minister and his team later inspected the construction of educational projects at the Senior High Technical School.
