Central region: The Central North Regional Police Command in the Central Region has initiated comprehensive 24-hour policing measures to bolster the government's 24-Hour Economy policy. This strategy aims to enhance police visibility through marked uniforms and equipment, ensuring the public can conduct their business activities safely.
According to Ghana News Agency, the plan includes intensified community policing with a stronger police presence, more frequent patrols, and the deployment of additional officers to areas with around-the-clock operations. Furthermore, the police will engage more with businesses, residents, and various community leaders to address local concerns and devise effective strategies.
The Command will also implement directives from the 24-Hour Economy Security Secretariat at Police Headquarters, focusing on personnel deployment during nighttime hours when crime rates often increase. Dr. Ishmael Nii Amanor Dodoo, Director and Head of Innovation, Partnerships, and Markets at the Secretariat, announced these measures during a security meeting in Assin Fosu.
The meeting, themed 'Policing the 24-Hour Economy,' gathered District Commanders and police personnel from across the region to discuss the security needs of the government's policy. This interactive engagement allowed for the exchange of ideas, identification of security challenges, and development of collaborative strategies to protect continuous economic activities.
The discussions emphasized the importance of personnel deployment, intelligence sharing, and strategic security planning as crucial elements of the policy's implementation. Dr. Dodoo highlighted that the initiative aims to boost productivity, increase employment, and modernize Ghana's economic landscape by supporting uninterrupted business and public service operations.
He acknowledged that economic growth often attracts criminal activities, underscoring the need for a robust security framework and coordination among security agencies. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Abraham Acquaye, the Regional Police Commander, stressed the importance of addressing security implications of the 24-Hour Economy to develop sustainable policing models tackling challenges like violent crime, cybercrime, and communal conflicts.
DCOP Acquaye reaffirmed the Command's dedication to maintaining public safety under the existing 24-hour police operations schedule. However, he called for increased logistical support and additional personnel to enhance operational capacity in response to expanded policing demands.
