Accra: Ghana's own Buz Stop Boyz, a group of young environmental volunteers, has been awarded the Sanitation Impact Award by the Diplomatic Envoy Global Organization.
According to Ghana News Agency, the recognition was conferred during the Diplomatic Envoy Model United Nations (DEMUN) Accra Conference 2025, held on Friday, June 27 and Saturday, June 28. The event, themed 'Uniting for SDG 6 - Ensuring Clean Water and Sanitation for All,' gathered delegates from across continents to engage in high-level discussions, policy simulations, and collaboration toward achieving Sustainable Development Goal 6.
The Buz Stop Boyz were celebrated for their practical and consistent contributions toward sanitation and clean water initiatives in Ghana, including public clean-up campaigns and raising awareness on proper waste disposal and ocean pollution. The group reaffirmed their commitment to a cleaner Ghana and advocated for intensified public education on waste reduction. They cautioned, 'There is a danger ahead of us. Research has predicted that in 25 years, the amount of filth and plastic waste in the ocean will be three times the number of fish.'
Dr. Miguel Pinzon, President of the Diplomatic Envoy Global Organisation, highlighted the critical link between diplomacy, peacebuilding, and environmental sustainability. He called on global leaders to move beyond rhetoric and show tangible commitment to ensuring access to clean water and sanitation for all.
Delivering the welcome address, Mr. Samuel Aryeequaye, Secretary-General of DEMUN, emphasised the organisation's continued dedication to promoting diplomacy, youth empowerment, entrepreneurship, and international collaboration. 'The Diplomatic Envoy Global Organization will continue to champion diplomacy, leadership, youth empowerment, entrepreneurship, and international cooperation across continents,' he stated.
The event served as a powerful convergence of youth voices, policymakers, and changemakers working towards a more sustainable, healthier planet, and the Buz Stop Boyz stood out as shining examples of grassroots action with global impact.
