Sunyani: Mr Patrick Dela Newman, the Bono Regional Director of Agriculture, has announced that the region is set to receive 10,000 birds as part of the government's 'Nkoko Nkitinkiti' program. The initiative aims to bolster poultry farming in the region.
According to Ghana News Agency, the directorate has already trained 20 poultry farmers who will manage the birds initially, ensuring proper care and handling before they are distributed to farmers in the region. Mr Newman emphasized that the farmers will also receive vaccinations and cages to aid in the program's implementation.
The distribution of the birds will be facilitated through registered and recognized farmer-based organizations in the region. Mr Newman encouraged poultry farmers to register with these organizations to take part in the program. For farmers who are not affiliated with any group, he advised contacting local Agriculture Extension Officers for assistance.
In addition to the 'Nkoko Nkitinkiti' program, Mr Newman highlighted the 'Feed Ghana' initiative. He urged basic and secondary schools in the region to engage in commercial farming as part of this program. Selected schools will receive agricultural inputs and crops, as well as support for livestock production.
